The inspiration for a·pex, a performance developed by Soprano, Elisabeth Hetherington and clarinetist Jelmer de Moed, is just that: our inspiration, our breath. Breath is what links us, not only to our own bodies but to others as well as to the world around us. Breath moves through the trees and the flowers as easily as the inhalation and exhalation of our lungs. It drives our music, our movement and forms the center out of which our performance will grow. With the guidance of director and choreographer Peter Leung, we are exploring the possibilities of expression available through combination of movement and music.
The music of a·pex contrasts tense, tight discord and “Ophelia like unease” found in Mitch Renaud’s introspective work you.we.i. with flowing, pastoral melodies of Vaughn Williams’ Vocalises. Indeed, a·pex - defined as the highest point on a plant where fresh shoots can begin to grow - is a clashing point of this intense introspection with the hope and possibility of a new breath.
Elisabeth Hetherington Sopraan Elisabeth Hetherington interpreteert oude en moderne muziek en vindt haar eigen weg in het samenbrengen van deze uitersten. Ze heeft talloze werken in première gebracht in Nederland, België, Noorwegen, Estland en Rusland. De jonge sopraan heeft een passie voor multidisciplinaire uitvoeringen en werkt graag met andere artiesten. Ze werkt momenteel met moderne dansers Leineroebana en het Amsterdamse Cello Octet aan Sonus Motus, dat in 2022/2023 in première zal gaan. Elisabeth won in 2020 de Dutch Classical Talent Award en nam een eigen album op bij AvroTros.
Jelmer de Moed Jelmer de Moed combineert een passie voor kamermuziek met eigen projecten waarin hij interdisciplinaire samenwerkingen aangaat en al velen compositieopdrachten gaf. Deze jonge klarinettist won de afgelopen jaren het Prinses Christina Concours, de Classic Young Masters Award en toerde aan het begin van dit seizoen met zijn programma NOX langs alle grote concertzalen in Nederland, als finalist van Dutch Classical Talent. Komend seizoen verschijnt zijn debuut bij AvroTros Klassiek en gaat hij een nieuwe productie ontwikkelen in opdracht van Gaudeamus.
